  • Man with the Yellow Hat: (off-screen) Good morning, George!
  • Narrator: Said the man with the yellow hat.
  • Man with the Yellow Hat: Have you seen our new neighbors? Last night while you're sleeping, a moving van came with all the furniture. You can go and visit them and help them unpack, but don't get into trouble.
  • Narrator: George got up and looked at the window. What a surprise! On along the house crossed the street, there were lots of tables and lamps and chairs. There was even a parrot in his cage. (parrot squawks) George ran over to the neighbors.
  • Susan: Hi!
  • Narrator: Said the girl in her new dress.
  • Susan: My name is Susan. This is my baby brother. I'm looking after him.
  • Susan's Mother: Susan!
  • Narrator: Called her mother.
  • Susan's Mother: We're going to be busy inside the house. Watch her brother until we're finished.
  • Narrator: George was looking at the crates and boxes on the line. He was curious.
  • Susan: Would you like to see what's inside?
  • Narrator: Asked Susan. She opened a long yellow box. There was a shiny bicycle with a basket in front. The basket had a lid that opened and closed. George helped Susan the bicycle out of the box.
  • Susan: My daddy gave me a bike when we moved.
  • Narrator: Susan said.
  • Susan: You can ride if you like.
  • Narrator: George climbed on the bike. It rolled it up right down the line. Then he leaped back in the seat and rolled it on just like one wheel.
  • Susan: That's great!
  • Narrator: Susan shouted and clapped her hands. George was the best bike rider she had ever seen. George started to ride the bike backwards.
  • Susan: Watch out!
  • Narrator: Shouted Susan.
  • Susan: You're going to hit the moving van.
  • (breaking sounds)
  • Narrator: The basket flew off the bike and so did George ride onto the front line.
  • Susan: George.
  • Narrator: Cried Susan.
  • Susan: Are you all right?
  • Narrator: Luckily, George had fallen on the grass. It was not heard. Susan's mother had heard the noise and came running over to see what happened. Nobody was looking after the baby, who was watching the parrot. He reached for the door to the parrot's cage, opened it and tried to grab the bird. The bird was straightened. It flew out of his cage and landed in a pine tree.
  • Susan: Look what's happened.
  • Narrator: Cried Susan.
  • Susan: A parrot has escaped!
  • Narrator: And she began to cry.
  • Susan: How are we ever going to get him back?
  • Narrator: But George knew what to do. He jumped up from the line. First, he grabbed the basket. Then he went over to the empty bird cage, took out some of the bird seed and put in in a basket. Slowly, he climbed up a pine tree very slowly. The bird got frightened, he might fly away and never come back. Everybody on the ground was watching. Now George was very close, he opened to the top of the basket, and he moved close to the bird. When the parrot saw the bird seed, he jumped right in. Mmm. He was hungry! While the parrots feed the bird seeds, George closed the too of the basket.
  • Susan's Mother: Hooray!
  • Narrator: He was safe and sound inside. George handed the basket over to Susan's mother.
  • Susan's Mother: Thank you very much, George!
  • Narrator: She said.
  • Susan's Mother: You're one of my best neighbors we ever had.
  • Susan: You can ride my bike any time.
  • Narrator: Susan said.
  • (trumpet sounds faster)
  • Narrator: New neighbors, new friends. George was lucky today.
