  • Man with the Yellow Hat: It's a beautiful day, George.
  • Narrator: Said the man with the yellow hat.
  • Man with the Yellow Hat: Let's go for a drive in the country!
  • Narrator: They got in their little blue car and drove off. On the way, they saw the fairgrounds when the circus was getting ready for a show.
  • Man with the Yellow Hat: There's John, the owner of the circus.
  • Narrator: Said the man.
  • Man with the Yellow Hat: Let's stop and say hello.
  • Narrator: John looked worried.
  • John: One of our elephants had running away.
  • Narrator: He said.
  • John: We've been looking everywhere.
  • Man with the Yellow Hat: George and I are taking a ride in the country. We'll keep an eye open for him.
  • Narrator: Said the man, and they drove off. They stopped at a field full of haystacks. (Curious George jumps out of the car)
  • Man with the Yellow Hat: George.
  • Narrator: Said the man.
  • Man with the Yellow Hat: You may play here. I'll go and get some copies and I'll bring you back an ice cream cone.
  • Narrator: It was a perfect day to play in the haystack. George ran from stack to stack. Finally, he hopped in the biggest haystack of all. Suddenly, something moved under him. First, there was a little bump, then a bigger one, and then, George felt himself being carried away. He was riding on the back of the elephant. George held onto the elephant's ears as they started towards town. Soon, they were in the middle of Main Street. Cars stopped to look. (elephant trunk blows)
  • Driver #1: What's that?
  • Narrator: Shouted the driver.
  • Woman: Somebody get him out of the way!
  • Narrator: Yelled a woman. There was a big traffic jam. (police car siren sounds) A police car screamed down the street.
  • Policeman #1: Elephants aren't allowed on Main Street.
  • Narrator: Shouted one of the policemen. George was scared. It was time to get away. He tucked to the elephant's ear. (the elephant runs past) At the end of the street was an old warehouse. The door was opened, (Curious George and the elephant enter the warehouse) they ran in. George climbed down and closed the door. (Curious George closes the warehouse door) Now they were both safe. How were they? The police car came down the street.
  • Policeman #2: They've go to be here.
  • Narrator: Said one of the policemen.
  • Policeman #1: How far can an elephant and a monkey go?
  • Narrator: Said the other one. Suddenly, there was a big roar.
  • Policeman #2: So that's where they are.
  • Narrator: Said the policeman.
  • Policeman #1: Let's go!
  • (door opens)
  • Policeman #1: All right you little monkey! Where did you get that elephant?
  • Policeman #2: You two are under arrest.
  • Narrator: George was scared. A crowd was gathering in front of the warehouse. (people murmuring)
  • Driver #1: That's him!
  • Narrator: The driver shouted.
  • Driver #2: He nearly caused an accident.
  • Narrator: Said another.
  • Woman: Incredible! A monkey riding an elephant down Main Street.
  • Narrator: Said the lady. Just then, the circus people came running in.
  • John: That's our lost elephant!
  • Narrator: Said the owner.
  • John: Wait, officer! If it wasn't for George, we never might found him.
  • Policeman #1: Well...
  • Narrator: Said the policeman.
  • Policeman #1: In that case, I guess we'll let you go.
  • John: But George.
  • Narrator: Said the owner.
  • John: The next time you find an elephant, tell us first. How'd you like to ride the elephant back to the circus?
  • (trumpet sounds)
  • (elephant trunk blows)
  • Man with the Yellow Hat: There you are, George!
  • Narrator: Said the man with the yellow hat.
  • Man with the Yellow Hat: I've been waiting for you. Don't you want your ice cream?
