George Cleans Up
|Written by||Sandra Willard|
Gnocchi The Critic is the first half-episode of the sixty-second episode of Curious George.
In the City, on a beautiful spring day, Curious George accompanies the Man with the Yellow Hat to visit Chef Pisghetti's Restaurant, which is empty, so the Waitress instructs them to go back into the kitchen, to discover plates of prepared foods lining the tables, carts and counters.
Now, Chef Pisghetti and Netti tell Curious George and the Man with the Yellow Hat that Gnocchi, Chef Pisghetti's pet Cat, must approve all of Chef Pisghetti's menu items, but she won't try anything today, not that she will eat anything except cat food anyway, but Chef Pisghetti abides by Gnocchi's "Lick of Approval" in order to decide if a menu item is savory.
Well, the Florist's Delivery Man delivers a vase of flowers, which Gnocchi approaches, but Netti tells her that flowers are not food, but to return to her approving Chef Pisghetti's dishes, but Gnocchi will not budge.
Then Curious George wonders why Gnocchi won't sample anything, especially after Chef Pisghetti tells everyone that he's retiring because he is now ruined. So, Curious George scrutinizes Gnocchi's behavior, as she walks into the ground-level garden to roll into the vegetable bed, and then to follow her through the alley to see if she's eating anywhere else, when she passes before the Sausage Vendor even though Curious George decides that the Sausage Vendor's wares smell delicious.
And, back inside the restaurant, Netti prepares a farewell dinner, to say, "Good-bye" to Chef Pisghetti's loyal customers, while the Man with the Yellow Hat brings Gnocchi new toys because she may be bored with life, but Gnocchi merely passes these by, as well.
So, before the Waitress serves the last antipasto and last ravioli dinners to Curious George and the Man with the Yellow Hat, she places the floral vase upon their table, but the Man with the Yellow Hat begins to sneeze, and moves the flowers away, while saying that the eggplant has no taste, causing Curious George to draw a link between Gnocchi's behavior and the Man with the Yellow Hat's allergies to the flowers because Curious George decides that the eggplant tastes savory enough to satisfy even "Gnocchi the Critic." But will Curious George be correct in his analysis when Chef Pisghetti and Netti take Gnocchi to the Veterinarian?
